Origins
Dufferin Tile came into existence in the early 60s. Back then flooring for the most part was limited to vinyl, with limited usage of ceramic and natural stone. Dufferin Tile began mainly doing installations, and it strived and persisted, until it would become widely known as the place to go to. A place to choose from a large selection of good quality items at very fair prices.
In the 1970s, Canadians became more aware of the quality that ceramic offered, though it was still relatively unknown. At the time, in the opinion of Guido Palombo, the few importers of ceramic tile that existed, unfairly maintained very high prices. It was for this reason, that Guido decided to import ceramic tiles himself. Given that Guido was born and raised in Italy, and that the predominant manufacturers of ceramic tile were, and continue to be located there, the transition into importing was relatively easy. Today Dufferin tile imports porcelain tile, marble and granite, both tile and slabs, slate and travertine, as well as ceramic tile.
Dufferin Tile’s philosophy, since it began importing, has been to provide the best quality products at the lowest price. With a new 40,000 square foot warehouse built in the mid 1980’s, importing products from around the world became even easier. This philosophy of doing business was handed down to Guido’s son, Claudio, who took over management in the 1980s.
Today, Claudio and his wife Anna are working hard together to ensure that Dufferin Tile will always be able to maintain the highest quality tile at those great prices for you, our customer. Since the sad passing of Guido, both Claudio and Anna have made a strong effort to become familiar to many of our customers. Their voices have been ringing out on radio ads for a few years, following in Guido’s footsteps to bring that personal touch of the company to you, our valued customer.
Although, Dufferin tile has now grown into one of the biggest importers and distributors of ceramic tile in Ontario, Claudio has never wavered in its philosophy of low prices and high quality. This philosophy has been applied to porcelain tile as well as marble, granite, slate and travertine.
Today, our showroom of about 10,000 square feet is home to hundreds of different tile displays, and with the addition of our newly updated website, these displays will also have a home online.
